Becket House 12'' LP (1990)

"The money from the sale of this record will go towards the Becket House Bus Appeal.

Becket House is a project which attempts to develop a new approach to the long stay care of elderly people with Alzheimers Disease and other forms of senile dementia."

- from the liner notes to Becket House.

Quite an amazing line up for this compilation LP put out by Brighton's Porritt's Hill Records in 1990. The Telescopes' track is a cover song originaly issued in 1967 by Tim Rose and to my knowledge can only be found on this LP.

The Edsel Auctioneer - Starfish 12'' EP (1991)

In the early '90s I was slightly obsessed with the Edsel Auctioneer and as a result I believe that I now own their entire discography, except for a recording of their Peel Session(s?) (not sure how many they recorded). A couple of songs recorded by the band for a Peel Session are now available on the Soundcloud page of singer Aidan Winterburn.

This 12'' record was released by Decoy Records in 1991. The title track also appears on their subsequent album and the b-side features a Madonna cover.

I was lucky to catch the band live in 1992 at the Jericho Tavern in Oxford (UK). They were promoting their recently released album 'Simmer' so most of the songs were new to me. Still, I remember going there well in advance (the band was still unloading equipment from their van when I got there!), knowing very well that there would be at best 50 persons attending anyway. But I would not have missed that gig for anything.

Ablaze! 7'' Flexi Disc (1989)

This 7'' flexi disc came with the Leeds based fanzine Ablaze! It features an exclusive (and excellent) track by The Edsel Auctioneer, taken from a 1988 demo tape. It also features one other band from Leeds, Nerve Rack, as well as Manchester's Sanity Plexus and Brighton's Nitro Puppy.

There's not many details but this seems to be issue number 6 for this fanzine and it was published probably around 1989/1990.

Enjoy the super hi-fidelity flexi sound!
